ALCHEMIST THEATRE year three

2010 marks year three of The Alchemist Theatre
and also the beginning of a new, exciting season!
Yes, theater tradition holds that a "theater season" starts on some unmarked point on the calendar.  But since The Alchemist produces cool theater and events without taking a break, we just call the calendar year our "season."

2009 quickie highlights:

2009 was another great year for The Alchemist and all of the artists who produce art or perform here.

In the past year The Alchemist Theatre hosted everything from Wisconsin Hybrid Theater's "old timey radio plays" to the classic "Virginia Woolf" directed by Kirk Thomsen.
The comedy groups "Meanwhile" and "Leerick" entertained nearly every friday night.  Samantha's Amazing Cat Circus sold out multiple peformances!  Broadmined produced two great shows, Patrick Schmitz brought back the successful Sketch 22 and Rudolph, The Pissed-Off Reindeer.  Jason Powell blasted us out into an adventurous, deep-space, musical adventure with "Invader? I hardly know her!"  David Mamet's "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" shook things up and was later peformed at the Rhode Opera House in Kenosha.
Halloween brought on the chills with "Dracula: The Undead."

AWARDS AND ACCOLADES:

2008, Shepherd Express readers voted The Alchemist for best local entrepreneur.
2009 saw The Alchemist taking second place for local entrepreneur after Lincoln Fowler of Alterra Coffee.
Shepherd Express readers also voted The Alchemist into a second place position for BEST THEATER COMPANY after The Milwaukee Rep.
WISN/ABC viewers voted The Alchemist Theatre as one of the top four theater venues in the city along with The Pabst Theater and The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts!
Not too shabby for year three.  Thanks everyone!

2010 in quickie preview:

In 2010, The Alchemist is keeping some of the best from 2008/2009 while adding even more, brand-new and exciting entertainment into the totally packed schedule!
Patrick Schmitz again brings more installments of the always fun "SKETCH 22" and "Rudolph, The Pissed-Off Reindeer" (which has also been picked up for production at a few other theaters around the Milwaukee area!)  The talented broads of Broadminded return with their all-female sketch comedy shows!  The improv comedy groups of Meanwhile and Leerick will continue to entertain late friday nights.
YOUNGBLOOD productions, who blasted onto the Milwaukee theater scene last year is bringing "RED LIGHT WINTER" and "MONSTERS OF MANTAGORA ISLAND" to the spring calendar.

Vince Figueroa is  time-warping The Alchemist back to the 1980's with a new comedy, "8 Bit Warrior," which evolves around vintage video game fever.  David Kaye lights a fire with the classic big-brother-esque "Fahrenheit 451."

Beth Lewinski directs one of only two "official" Alchemist Productions this year: "CLOSET LAND."  The Wisconsin premiere of this award-winning, dramatic play.
Wisconsin Hybrid Theater returns with the always fun and funny "old timey radio plays" and The Wauwatosa Village Players bring back their award-winning one-act festival.

Greg Bach & Erica Case then co-direct the second "official" Alchemist Production: a play by Aaron Kopec that brings the chill back to the Halloween season. The original "MURDER CASTLE: The Chronicle of H.H.Holmes" follows the shocking, true-life story of America's first serial killer.
